My last blog at Night Writers was on Alex, an amazing parrot with a large vocabulary. This vid is about a cat caretaker who, inspired by Pepperberg's work with Alex, has tapped into the cognitive powers of her once feral cats. Joan Kosby's cats can identify some words, shapes and colors. Cat owners in the blog-osphere have always known that felines are highly intelligent. Joan has proven it. Let's watch.
After the first short vid, you might want to click on the second one on shapes and colors. There's a total of six.

Very interesting. I would like to have seen her switch the order of cat and dog and see if the cat still picked the right one--I think the cat was more identifying position than reading. I.e, the first time, the cat selected the right-side choice. When she put the bowl on the floor, the cat selected the left-side object.
Still, getting a cat to do that is amazing--thanks for posting.
I wondered about that too, Rhobin. I thought it was pretty cute when he tilted his head to rub against her:)
I kinda feel that the cat knew to alternate his answer from the position of the first question, but who am I to say this for sure? I still agree cat's (all animals) are much more intelligent than humans give them credit for. After most humans tend to forget, the animals were here first! LOL
Very possible, but even that is a learned response.
What cats won't learn to do for kibble treats!
Love Sullivan; he looks my Winston.
Isn't that the truth. Your Winston must be a beauty, Rhobin:)
Even if he was trained to pick it by some signal, that in itself is amazing. I can't train my cat to do anything but lay down and beg to get her belly rubbed!
