Heh. I don't have anything to say about calligraphy today. My mind is on some dental work I have to have done this afternoon. And you know? I can't seem to get around that. Anyway, I thought I would talk about a discovery that came from having dental work done in the past.
Most people don't seem to have a problem with the dentist. Oh, it's not a pleasant experience, but it's not painful, either. Not so for me. For a long time I thought I was a wuss of the first order. And then I stumbled across the truth.
Novocaine (along with most of the other "caines") doesn't work for me. It's difficult to convince the medical establishment that this is true. Very difficult. But I've finally developed an explanation that at least they listen to before they drill.
It seems the anesthetic shots don't work on anyone in my family! My uncle, my siblings, my kids...my mother is gone now so I couldn't ask her, but her brother had to have general anesthesia for his dental work. The shots don't deaden the skin for stitches, either. Nope.
Now the grandkids are coming along. Our family has been working on compiling (and updating) a family medical history. And that is one of the things that is in it. Along with the severe nose bleeds and the kidney disease.
What about you? Does your family have something that runs through the generations? How do you make sure everyone is aware of it?

Wow Anny! That's a bummer! I've never heard of it before and I can only imagine what you have gone through your entire life! Are there other products that work? I can't take Novocaine, I'm allergic and have found myself going into shock several times before a dentist finally told me what was going on. They use something different now, not quite as effective, but certainly better that nothing! Good luck at the dentist today. ((Hugs))
P.S. Anny. As I sit here cringing for you, I just want you to know I am just so sorry! I broke 5 teeth in my accident and am now waiting for bone grafts to heal before they can continue fixing me, so I am just shuddering to think of how awful it must be. Can you be put to sleep? I hope you have good teeth and don't have to have a lot done, but even cleaning can be painful if you get a new and determined tech doing it. And as an aside, is it just Novocaine? Does it help to take pain killers such as ibuprofen for headaches and such? You poor baby, I just can't send enough sympathy!
Heh. Back from the dentist. Lips and nose are numb. Inside the mouth and gums...not so much. They tried a different numbing agent, but it wore off before she finished. It's a work in progress.
Next...a gum specialist to deal with the bone loss in my mouth. And I expect he'll use general anesthesia. So many complications when you have diabetes, high blood pressure and thyroid issues. :-)
I totally feel for you and yes, we have dental challenges in this family and I've suffered from my share for sure.
Oh yikes, Anny. That's just not fair.
