A New Breed of Cat: The Nebelung

This American made, long-legged beauty has only been in the breeding world since the 1980s and still considered new.The name is a loose German translation for creatures of the mist. Fitting isn't it? These kitties are very similar to Russian Blues only their coat is longer. In fact, some of the breeding stock that went into developing the Nebelung is, you guessed it, Russian Blue.
This is a gentle, affectionate cat that's on the timid side. It does well with its family but is wary of strangers. The Nebelung is a lap cat that often forms a forever bond with one family member. It's a good cat for seniors.
The Nebelung's coat is medium length and dense. Its guard hairs are tipped silver and give its coat an incandescent affect. This is one of those great longhairs whose fur doesn't tend to mat.  It should be fine if brushed at least once a week. These cats have oval green eyes. Sometimes the kittens have yellow eyes that as they mature turn green. Its ears are set far apart on a modified wedge head.
Nebelung's are hearty cats. They don't have hereditary health issues. Their average life span is sixteen plus years.
Since they are such a relatively new breed, I did a search on Petfinder to make sure you can find them through rescue. Sure enough, you can. So if you're intrigued with this breed and feel it would make a good family member, please check rescue before going to a breeder.
