I love fall and every year decorate our home inside and out almost as much as I do for Christmas. Calvin claims I have strong nesting instincts. I'm not so sure of that; I just enjoy the colors of fall. Something about the season pleases me. Going for walks is more enjoyable if I'm stepping through fallen leaves, watching squirrels scurry up trees, their cheeks puffed out with nuts collected for winter's feeding. Without the oppressive humidity and heat, being outdoors is enjoyable again.
As a writer, I catalog all these sights and sounds and smells for inclusion in some future story. But for now, I simply enjoy all the wonderments of the season. Apple butter Festivals. Pumpkin carving contests. Making treat bags for the hordes of trick-er-treaters that scamper up and down our streets.
And football...let's not forget football. Whether it's my grandson's middle school football team (#27 folks, isn't he the greatest?? Sorry, grandma bragging alert...ah...what was I saying?), collegiate or NFL. I love them all. That's why every year, I fall for fall. What about you? What's your favorite season?

I do love autumn, but not so much football. I love watching the trees change colors here. A friend showed how to wax the leaves so they stay fresh looking all winter, which I also love to do. Winter is my hardest season, it fills me apocalyptic visions.
I agree with you Vonnie! What a glorious time of the year, man and nature scooping of the harvest of a long hot summer and preparing for the long cold winter. Its like mother nature decorates the earth, a splendid display to last through the long gray days ahead. And though I am not a great fan of football, I have a six year old great grand son playing this year. He announced yesterday that he was now a linebacker. I'm suddenly excited! I have always loved miniatures, and they are so cute!
Love the bowl of pumpkins and squash.
