Munchkins

Yes, even the cat world has Munchkins.
Munchkins are just like any other cats except they have short legs.
Short-legged cats were discovered in England in the 1930s. Word War II took a toll on the cat population in general, including these cuties.
Short-legged cats first showed up in American in the 1980's in Louisiana were a music teacher first found 2 short-legged kitties trapped under a car by a dog.
The short legs are from a dominant mutation. If a cat has that gene, it  will have the short legs.
The Munchkin breed originated in the United States.Munchkins were named for the little people in Wizard of Oz. The breed was accepted in TICA in 1994. There was much dissension about this among the breeding world. Many people felt it would cause physical issues for the cats.
These cats come in all colors and hair length.
The average life span is fourteen or fifteen.
They stand up on their hind legs like rabbits. A Munchkin's personality depends a lot on the characteristics they've inherited from their DNA pool. Overall though  they're described as playful and loveable.
Interest in a Munchkin, please save a life and consider rescue.

Remembrance of the nine eleven victims and their loved ones.

I just can't get into short legged cats. They're cute, and I'm sure if I had one I'd love it to pieces, but I like the svelte look of the oriental breeds and the wild cat bodies of the European breeds.

P.S.
Just goes to show there is a cat for every want, need, and preference of humankind.

I agree with both statements, Rhobin. I like long legs:) and there's a type of cat for everybody.
How's your brood?

I lost another of my group of misfits to a coyote. Rocky and Bullwinkle the raccoons are gone, too. The cats all want out and are quick to sneak through the door and take off running.

A very profound and true statement, Ms. Anny. You're a wise woman.

I'm so sorry, Rhobin. That sucks. Again, I can only say I know their quality of life has been good living with you. They probably wouldn't have made it as long as they did if you hadn't stepped in. Hugs.
