Tropical Travel to Hilton Head Island

For many years we have traveled to Hilton Head, South Carolina once or twice each year. We bought

a timeshare there about three decades ago because we fell in love with the tennis. Some years we took an extra vacation and attended week-long Dennis Van Der Meer clinics. For eight of the years we've owned, we spent a weekend each year during our vacation time at Hilton Head in Columbia attending football games at the University of South Carolina where two of our daughters were enrolled in the honors college.

We just returned from a week in Hilton Head where we indulged our love of tennis with a daily stroke of the day clinic. While there, we checked out a few restaurants, but we found nothing that came up to our Boathouse II experience from several years again. At that time, we enjoyed the champagne brunch complete with a build your own omelet that included crab meat as a potential ingredient. Sadly, new ownership a couple of years ago took away that special brunch. What replaced it is no where near as enjoyable. This year, we did not even visit the restaurant which is now called Skull Creek Boathouse.

Of course, I always need to find a sports bar. This year was no exception. Since last Sunday was the first for NFL games, it took a while to discover one that would give us a TV for baseball. We finally wound up at Wild Wings where I got my best meal of the week--a chicken salad plate that substituted extra chicken salad for the potato salad. It was delicious.

What could be more pleasant than a tropical island experience in September that includes tennis, baseball, and a sampling of food all around Hilton Head? I'm already anticipating our next visit!
